Over 3000 Jaguar Land Rover staff put on three-day week
Car maker Jaguar Land Rover announced on Monday it would fight job cuts by moving 3,000 staff to a three-day week until Christmas at the Castle Bromwich plant in the West Midlands.
The company said it would move production to a three-day week in order to fight the challenging conditions the automotive industry is facing. Half of the plant's 2,000 workers will be affected by the move and will remain on full pay.
A spokesperson said: “In light of the continuing headwinds impacting the car industry, we are making some temporary adjustments to our production schedules at Castle Bromwich.
“We are, however, continuing to over-proportionally invest in new products and technologies, and are committed to our UK plants in which we have invested more than £4bn since 2010 to future-proof manufacturing technologies to deliver new models.”
In July, Jaguar Land Rover warned that a hard Brexit would threaten £80bn worth of investment plans for the UK and could force the company to shut down its factories.
Chief executive Ralf Speth warned last week that tens of thousands of jobs in the automotive sector would be at risk if the UK exited the EU without a deal with Brussels.
