Robert will step down as chairman of credit-checking firm Experian at the conclusion of the 2019 AGM in July or when a successor is in place.
Brydon said: "I am delighted to welcome Don to the group and I look forward to working with him over the next few months until he assumes the role of chairman.
"It has been a privilege to serve as chairman of the group. The group plays a unique role both in London and globally, facilitating capital formation and investment, as well as contributing to financial stability through its risk management business. I am confident the executive team led by CEO David Schwimmer will benefit from Don's leadership as the group further develops in the years ahead."
LSE also said in an announcement earlier that it had upped its stake in clearing house LCH Group to 82.6%, having bought an additional 14.6% from certain minority shareholders for €424.5m (£382.1m).
At 1515 GMT, LSE shares were up 0.5% to 4,050p and Experian shares were up 0.4% to 1,906.50p.
