Senior Tory Brexiters may push for 'no-confidence' vote, reports say
Some senior Tory Brexiters are reportedly pushing for an immediate 'no-confidence' vote against the Prime Minister.
According to Sky News, European Research Group member Conor Burns, the PM has "in a moment of "errant genius" united the country in the belief that this is "the worst of all worlds".
Downing Street said that there would be a press statement on Wednesday evening, but no press conference, while a response from Brussels was expected to hinge on London giving the 'green light'.
The pound weakened on the back of the news, shedding 0.37% of its value against the US dollar to trade at 1.29082 as of 1830 GMT.
Earlier, a meeting of ambassadors from the European Union's 27 member states had concluded although no details of their deliberations had been made public.
Reports citing the Attorney General indicated that the Brexit proposal agreed with Brussels does not include any "unilateral exit" mechanism from the Irish backstop agreement.
