The announcement comes in line of the CEO’s expectations after Musk tweeted back in November that he expected the model 3 to be delivered in Asian giant by March.
Tesla said in a statement the starting price for a Model 3 in China would be 499,000 yuan ($72,000). Tesla cut prices for its Model 3 last month and said earlier in the week that another price cut was coming.
The carmaker said it intends to produce 3,000 Model 3 vehicles a week in its new plant in Shanghai and localize its manufacturing and supply chain.
During the latest earnings call, Musk commented about the timeline of the release of the Model 3 in Europe and said then that Tesla planned to open the order book to reservation holders by the end of the year and that the company plans to build a significant batch of Model 3 vehicles for Europe in January and he expects deliveries in February and March also.
“We expect to start producing a significant volume for Europe in January, and obviously take some time to ship. So deliveries, probably if we finish the deliveries in Europe kind of in the late February, March timeframe.”
