Spanish Socialist leader announces deal to study Constitutional reform
Spain's Socialist leader welcomed a deal with the country's Prime Minister to analyse a possible reform of the Constitution.
Following a meeting of his party's chiefs, Pedro Sanchez, added that until those discussions begin the Socialist party would help defend the country's legal framework and any measure the executive branch might adopt with that aim in mind.
He also voiced support for Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy's decision to activate article 155 of the Constitution - which allows for the possibility of suspending of an autonomous region's devolved powers - which requires that regional president Carles Puigdemont first clarify if he has indeed issued a declaration of independence.
The timeframe for beginning those studies was six months and would be preceded by an immediate start to of work by a commission charged with modernising the current system of regional autonomy.
