Wednesday preview: CBI retail survey, US GDP in focus
The beleaguered UK retail sector will also be in focus with the CBI survey on Wednesday, while stateside there is GDP and PCE data.
At 1100 BST, the CBI will publish its distributive trades survey, with a slight slip in the reported sales balance expected for March to +7 from the +8 a month before, though some economists are expecting a bigger slide.
"We look for a sharp fall in the reported sales balance to -10 in March," said Pantheon Macroeconomics. "The survey will cover the period of heavy snow in late February and early March, which will have prevented people getting to the shops, hitting sales of spring clothing."
A final reading on the US fourth-quarter GDP number will land at 1330 BST, alongside core personal consumption expenditures data for the quarter.
Treasuries continued to watch risk markets, noted TD Securities as North American equities surged yesterday and the curve bear flattened. "Trade concerns and equity sentiment remain key drivers of Treasury momentum ahead of PCE released later in the week."
FTSE 100-quoted tour operator TUI is scheduled to publish second-quarter sales, while industrial components distributor Diploma is due to provide a first-quarter updates on a fairly quiet Wednesday corporate calendar.
