Friday preview: All quiet on the UK company front
Friday could be very quiet in London, with no notable companies reporting results and no major UK data later.
In the data diary overseas the euro area inflation report will be the biggest talking point, with Canada also releasing price data later and US macro including Michigan consumer sentiment index and the Baker Hughes US oil rig count.
Looking at eurozone inflation, the initial 'flash' print showed July's consumer price index up 2.1% year-on-year, up from 2.0% in June, slightly higher than consensus forecast of 2.0% and the highest print since December 2012. Core inflation increased by 0.2 percentage points to 1.1% y-o-y.
"We think that higher regulated gas prices in Italy and France explain part of the upward surprise," said economists at HSBC, expecting the final print to confirm the flash numbers.
However, given headline inflation was 2.149%, there's a risk of a possible upward revision, less so on the core.
